The Houses of Vieques I wanted to buy

There are so many unique homes in Vieques of all shapes, sizes, and price points. For some reason I fell in love with a few that sadly weren't for sale. One was a historical house with quite the story. You know I love old houses.

These two were right up the street from where we stayed and I ran by them daily. Steps to the beach, a few blocks to downtown, small and quaint. Perfection. The one is already painted a perfect color, the other just needs a little love.

This home was breathtaking! The views were to die for and it was really private with no one around.

We were told this was once a little shack that sold for next to nothing. Such a cool concept and I can picture it with the windows all open.

 

These few beach homes had great views of the water, right on the beach, and pretty colors. None for sale and even if they were I am certain they would not be in my price range.

 

The Gorgeous Beaches of Vieques Island

Since Vieques is an island the beaches are of course endless. Not only are they endless they breathtaking and each one is unique.

 

Some are more rocky, others white sands, some are the prettiest turquoise color, others have amazing wildlife lurking below the waters for perfect snorkeling.

Very rarely are they ever crowded, they are almost all free, and are all open to the public. Truly the perfect place to go unwind and just enjoy. I can't get enough of these beaches and am counting down the days until we can return and explore some more.

Fortin Conde de Mirasol - Vieques

 

We had always seen the fort but had never taken the time to visit. This last trip we decided we really should visit the Fort as my dad wanted to learn more about the history of the Island.

 

 

 

 

 “El Fortin” is administered by the Puerto Rican Institute of Culture (ICP). El Fortin Code de Mirasol was constructed between 1845-1855 on a hill overlooking Isabel II, this fort was built with the intention to protect the port. It originally housed the Spanish militia, who would guard the island of Vieques against invading countries and pirates. However, it was never used in defense of Vieques. It served as a jail for both the Spanish and later for the US. It was abandoned in the 1940s and fell into disrepair. It has since been restored and is now a museum. A lot of history about the island (although beware a majority is in Spanish) and amazing views.

I truly do love running. Especially when I have the time for it and when I am someplace new.

It's the perfect way to explore and really get a feel for your location.

 

 

Almost every morning I would wake up early and go for a run in Vieques so I could work off some of the booze and explore the various neighborhoods and beaches to get a feel for where we want our vacation home to be.

The beauty of nature overwhelmed me with joy every day, I even loved the not so fancy homes, roads, and the chickens and horses that would dart in front of my path. Even they hold their own special appeal and beauty that adds to the island's charm.

 

Can't wait to return and run even more of the island, for a small island there is without a doubt a lot of exploring that can be done.

 

Vieques Fish Market

I spent a glorious week in Vieques, PR with my parents searching for a home.

We absolutely love the island. It's beautiful, laid back, and non commercialized Pure bliss. I took a million pictures so in hopes of actually sharing I'll break them into groups starting with our visit to the local fish market.
