I travel the world and am truly amazed with the sights, cultures, and people but in my eyes there is no place like home.

Polar Plunge 2015 - Grease

The Polar Plunge is such a great great event that raises money for Special Olympics. This year all the teams raised over $37,000 for the olympics with my team (Ice Holes) raising over $12,000 on our own! I wont take credit as I didn't raise anywhere near that but some of my great team members did.

I love how much fun our team has choosing a theme and getting all dressed up. We travel to the event on a bus and it turns into such a fun fun morning and afternoon all while doing something good for others. This year my brothers even joined the fun as "chickens". Loved having them with me.

We were blessed with a super nice weather day and it almost felt like cheating this year as the water was cold but no ice and once you were out of the water the sun quickly warmed you up. No complaints here!

After the plunge there are always some fun shenanigans that go down.

Spaghetti Fundraiser for Mission Trip to Mali

I am still alive I have just been an awful awful blogger! I have LOTS of fun pictures to share from our family trip last week to Vieques PR and a festive holiday home that needs photographed. Until then I wanted to share about a VERY exciting upcoming adventure.

This January I am heading to Mali with a small group from Christ Community Church. We will be vaccinating animals in the local village and at the same time acting as missionaries of God. I can't wait for this experience and to share the love of Jesus with others. To help raise the funds needed ($2,900.) there will be a Spaghetti dinner Thursday, December 19th from 500-800 pm at Barley's in Council Bluffs. The cost is $10 per person and you get salad, bread sticks, pasta and your choice of meat and sauces. Hope to see many of you there.

Not from Mali but from a recent mission trip to Guatemala

If you are unable to attend but would like to donate you may send a donation to Christ Community Church, 404 S 108th Ave , Omaha, NE 68154. Please write Melissa Head - Mali in the subject line. Or online at www.cccomaha.org/give Thanks in advance to everyone that supports me financially and spiritually with these trips!

Polar Plunge

Last weekend I participated in my first ever Polar Plunge. What a fun day and all for an even better cause. All money raised went to the Special Olympics.

I was part of a group called the Frosty Ice Holes  - funny right! Thanks to my amazing  teammates (I didn’t organize this group I just was lucky enough to raise money and show up) we were the top team and raised the most money! Awesome job!!!

Lake Manawa was definitely arctic the day we plunged but I would do it all over again next year without a doubt.

Fundraising, Family, Football, and Fun

Last weekend I ventured to Kansas City with my parents and Cole. Friday night we attended a dinner at JJ’s on the Plaza where we enjoyed wonderful food and drinks. All proceeds went to support downs syndrome through the First Down for Downs Syndrome organization (the dinner was purchased at the wine auction in April).

Saturday morning we awoke bright and early (or at least it felt bright and early after the late night at JJ’s) and headed to the Chiefs stadium for the Step up for Downs Syndrome Walk (formerly known as the Buddy walk) to walk as part of “Max’s Birthday Bash” Team. Here is my cousin Max.

We had a great crew for the walk and the weather turned out awesome.

Kansas City has one of the largest down syndrome walks in the country – impressive.

Sunday was Chiefs Football. It started off quite fun with great weather and loads of team spirit.

However by half time the team spirit had faltered due to the score and the horrible rainy weather. It was Support the Troops day and the half time show was amazing. A great reminder that we must support those who are risking their lives and leaving the comforts of home to keep the rest of us safe. (I sat in seats far away from the camera so unfortunately no photos)

A great weekend spent raising money for a great cause, spending time with family, and relaxing a bit before this hectic week of campaigning.
